Summary:
You Never Can Tell was originally born out of a bet that Shaw couldn’t write a “seaside comedy” (a favorite theatrical genre at that time). The effect is perhaps the most amazing of Shaw’s plays, filled with marital mayhem, tangled love, and even doubtful dentistry. Despite the play’s lighthearted build, it’s actually another of Shaw’s brilliantly observed social treatises, this time around in the guise of the light comedy.
