A lazy and wussy ex-gamer, Phil becomes mostly of the humans who get a mysterious alien piece of wetware which allows them to start to see the globe via an augmented-reality user interface nearly the same as those found in a MMORPG game. Guided by its stats and messages, Phil starts to level up, steadily transforming himself and his lifestyle. He even starts his personal business in order to help his friends and total strangers who acquire a newfound respect for him, helping him in his travails. As Phil proceeds on the path to self-improvement, guided by his personal conscience rather than system communications, he tries to find out more about the mystical third party which has bestowed such superhuman capabilities upon him.
