Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll made their radio debut January 12, 1926, as the comedic, blackface heroes Sam ‘n’ Henry. On March 19, 1928 they presented Amos ‘n’ Andy, which went on to become one of the most well-known and longest working programs in radio background. During the height of its reputation, nearly the entire country paid attention to the 15-minute, Mon through Friday ventures of Amos ‘n’ Andy. Shops open in the evening piped in the broadcasts so shoppers wouldn’t about The Amos ‘n’ Andy Show, Collection 1 miss an episode; concert halls planned their features to get rid of before the beginning of Amos ‘n’ Andy therefore they too could pipe it in. The personas were members of The Mystic Knights of the Sea Lodge, of which George Stevens was ‘The Kingfish’. Amos and Andy went the Fresh-Air Taxi cab Company, using the more stable, married Amos doing most of the function while Andy chased women. Among the best-remembered sequences was the time Andy nearly married Madame Queen. In 1943, after 4,091 quarter-hour episodes, it turned to a half-hour every week comedy. As the five-a-week display often acquired a silent, easygoing feeling, the new edition was a brassy Hollywood-style production, complete with studio room audience, full ensemble of supporting actors and full orchestra. Many of the half-hour applications were written by Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher, afterwards the writing group for Keep It to Beaver as well as the Munsters.
