Overcoming Trauma through Yoga is usually a reserve for survivors, clinicians, and yoga exercises instructors who are interested in mind/body curing. It introduces trauma-sensitive yoga exercise, a modified method of yoga developed in collaboration between yoga exercises instructors and clinicians on the Injury Middle at Justice Reference Institute, led by yoga exercises instructor David Emerson, along with medical doctor Bessel vehicle der Kolk. The book starts with an in-depth explanation of trauma and post-traumatic tension disorder (PTSD), including a description of how trauma is normally held in the torso and the necessity for body-based treatment. It provides a brief history of yoga, describes various varieties of yoga exercise commonly within Western practice, and identifies four key themes of trauma-sensitive yoga. Chair-based exercises are described that may be incorporated into specific or group therapy, targeting specific treatment goals, and modifications can be found for mat-based yoga classes. Each exercise includes trauma-sensitive vocabulary to bring in the practice, aswell as photographs to illustrate the poses.
