Empire of Borders: How the US is Exporting its Border Around the World Audiobook (Free)
Summary:
The United States is outsourcing its border patrol abroad-and essentially expanding its borders in the process
The twenty-first century continues to be a time of hardening borders-increased borderland patrols, monitoring, and militarization are widening the chasm between those that can vacation (or conduct business) where they please, and others whose movements are restricted by armed guards. But simply because journalist Todd Miller finds in Empire of Edges, the U.S. border is also becoming more and more fluid, expanding a large number of miles beyond U.S. place often to protect Washington’s interests.
In locations like Argentina, Kosovo, Honduras, Jordan, and Afghanistan, U.S. border patrol works alongside local agents to block migrants, terrorists, drug athletes, and smugglers from ever approaching the U.S. Empire of Edges traces the rise of this border routine, along with procedures of ‘severe vetting’ and the vast global sector for border and homeland protection. But in going to the Jordan/Syria boundary, as well as Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Kenya, Palestine, Mexico, and the Philippines, Miller finds instead a global war against the poor.
