Summary:
‘Millions of years ago, there was a twin world to Earth…’ The year is definitely 1986, with the South Pole the team from the Snowcap Base have detected a new planet on their radar. The entrance of the Doctor, Ben and Polly at the bottom coincides with another getting – that of a spaceship whose humanoid travellers have used cybernetics to replace their limbs and vital organs. The new appearance in the solar system is actually a tenth globe, and Earth’s twin. Its return has brought with it the emotionless Cybermen, their lone aim to ensure the success of their race. To the end they intend to drain Earth’s energy into the dying Mondas, whilst using the human population as fodder for a continuing program of cyber-conversion. Battling alongside the human beings to save their planet, the physician appears to weaken and age before the eye of his companions.
