about Conscience of the Conventional: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle
Dear Reader,
I am a conventional.
I believe that we now have limits from what government can and should do, that there are some problems that authorities cannot solve, which human initiative is most beneficial when left unfettered, clear of authorities interference or coercion. I really believe that these concepts, tested by time, offer the most freedom and best results in the lives of the most people.
But today, the American conventional movement has dropped its way. Given the state of our politics, it is no exaggeration to say that this is an urgent matter.
The Republican party used to play to a broader audience, one that demanded that we accomplish something. However in this era of dysfunction, our principal accomplishment has been constructing the discussion that we’re never to blame. We’ve decided that it’s easier to build and maintain a majority by using the levers of power as opposed to the artwork of persuasion as well as the battle of concepts. We’ve chose that putting party over country is okay. There are many on both sides from the aisle who believe this an excellent model which to create a political career-destroying, not building.
And even while, our country burns, our institutions are undermined, and our values are compromised. We have become so estranged from our principles that we no more know what process is.
America isn’t just a collection of transactions. America can be a assortment of ideas and values. And these are our beliefs. They are our concepts. They are not subject to switch, owing to politics style or cult of character. I believe that people desperately have to get back to the strenuous, fact-based arguments that produced us conservatives to begin with. We need to recognize that the stakes are simply too high to stay silent and fall in series.
That is why I have created this book and am acquiring this stand.
