Summary:
World War II is over and a family group, mourning a son missing doing his thing, plants a memorial tree and tries to go on with their lives. A surprise blows down the tree and a damaging family secret is certainly uprooted, setting the characters on a terrifying journey towards truth. Based upon a true tale, All My Child is a vintage drama by one of America’s biggest playwrights.
In the centre of most My Sons lies a scathing criticism from the American Dream. Following its publication Arthur Miller was known as to seem about All My Sons prior to the House Un-American Actions Committee, where he famously refused to provide proof against others.
Tony Award Winner for Best Writer (1947)
AudioFile Journal review: “One of the advantages of L.A. Theater Works is their skill at selecting quality plays previously unavailable on audio. Arthur Miller’s 1947 discovery play reaches once a postwar family episode, an indictment of false societal values and a searing tragedy. Wayne Farentino has businessman Joe Keller using a gruff bluster that sometimes masks a sacrificial like for his son Chris (Arye Gross), an idealist house from the battle. Julie Harris, as the mom, Kate, is definitely alternately needy, demanding, lovingly solicitous and willfully blind to days gone by. The live reactions of the audience underscore the details of humor that season the first acts of this landmark American crisis.”
