Summary:
Based on Ernest J. Gaines’ Country wide Book Critics Circle Award-winning book, A Lesson Before Dying is set in a little Louisiana Cajun community in the past due 1940’s. Jefferson, a young illiterate black guy, is normally falsely convicted of murder and is sentenced to loss of life. Grant Wiggins, the plantation schoolteacher, agrees to talk to the condemned guy. The disheartened Wiggins experienced once harbored dreams of escaping from his impoverished youngsters, yet he came back to his home town after university, to teach children whose lives appeared as unpromising as Jefferson’s. Both males forge a relationship as they come to comprehend what this means to withstand and defy one’s very own fate.
