A long-term audience, enthusiast and critic of research fiction, he obtained his doctorate from Oxford School by writing on THE PARTNERSHIP between Inventor and Creature in Technology Fiction. This thesis, which examined the work of Olaf Stapledon, George Bernard Shaw and HG Wells amongst others, earned him the right to put the suitable initials ‘MA D Phil’ after his name.
