Richard Diamond, Private Detective, Collection 2 Audiobook (Free)
Summary:
Created by Blake Edwards (of Pink Panther fame), Richard Gemstone, Private Detective came to NBC radio in 1949 starring film actor and crooner Dick Powell. Powell had recently performed Philip Marlowe in the popular RKO film Murder My Lovely and jumped at the opportunity to play a suave detective on radio. Richard Gemstone was a light-hearted New York-based private eye who appreciated ribbing the cops and performing music to his millionairess partner, Helen Asher (played by Virginia Gregg). Its theme “Leave about Richard Gemstone, Private Detective, Collection 2 it to Love” was whistled by Powell at the beginning of each event. Powell’s company (Four Star Tv) produced a TV edition of Richard Diamond, Private Detective for CBS in 1957. David Janssen, who would later gain fame as Dr. Richard Kimble around the Fugitive was cast as TV’s Richard Gemstone. Sam, Gemstone’s gorgeous secretary in the TV series, was only shown from your waistline down. Those gorgeous legs belonged to Mary Tyler Moore, and also other stars. 8/23/50 “The Farmer-Evans Murders Case”
