Kaylin wasn’t sent to the Western March to start a battle. Her mission to recreate nine Barrani might perform just that, though. Prior to the unplanned “visit” to the West March, Kaylin about Cast in Oblivion invited the Consort to dinner. For apparent reasons, Kaylin wants to cancel dinner-forever. However the Consort is going to show up at the front end door in the agreed-upon time. The fact that she attempted to imprison Kaylin’s guests doesn’t matter at all…to her.
A private Barrani Hell, built of Shadow and malice, exists under the High Halls. It’s the High Court’s responsibility to prison the creature at its heart-even if this means that Barrani victims are locked in the cage with it. The Consort is usually willing to perform just about anything to free of charge the trapped and end their eternal torment. And she needs assistance from Kaylin’s houseguests-and Kaylin herself. Failure won’t end up being death-it will become Hell. And that’s where Kaylin is certainly going.
