Richard II is the primary character from the play. The 1st Act starts with Ruler Richard seated majestically on his throne in full state. We find out that Henry Bolingbroke, Richard’s cousin, is usually having a dispute with Thomas Mowbray, and they both need the king to act as judge. The main topic of the quarrel is Bolingbroke’s accusation that Mowbray got squandered monies given to him by Richard for the King’s troops.
