Summary:
Mann lost his younger brother, Jason, two years ago-an innocent bystander within a shooting by himself porch. These murders certainly are a regular occurrence in Mann’s community. They’re so common, in fact, that he and his closest friend, Kee-lee, maintain a working tally of all deceased, since no one else seems to be paying attention. Also that is not enough.
Increasingly more, Mann escapes truth through painting and horse riding, but eventually turns to fighting, cheap thrills, and far worse. In a about Bang! last-ditch work, Mann’s father does the one thing he feels will train his son how exactly to survive. Drawing from an ancient African tradition, he abandons Mann and Kee-lee in the woods, leaving these to navigate their method home, alone.
What seems such as a good notion quickly converts tragic whenever a father’s good motives force his kid down a destructive route. Could anything be worse than dropping one child? Another wrong switch and it will all end up being over for Mann as well. Bang!
This realistic portrait of inner-city life is both sober and transcendent. Through its integrity, listeners are compelled to open up their eye to what’s occurring in their own homes and in the world around them.
